150 Bangladeshis repatriated from Libya

A total of 150 irregular Bangladeshi migrants from Libya were repatriated on Wednesday (May 28).

They were returned home with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tripoli, and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

According to a press release from the foreign ministry, the returnees arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6:25 am aboard a chartered Buraq Air flight (UZ222).

The media release also said that most of the returnees had entered Libya illegally with the help of human traffickers, lured by promises of reaching Europe via the perilous Mediterranean route. Many of them were victims of abduction and torture during their stay in Libya.
