TIB slams black money legalization provision in budget

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has strongly condemned the decision to continue the provision for whitening black money in the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.
In a press statement issued Monday, TIB labeled the move unethical, discriminatory and unconstitutional, urging the interim government to abandon the practice immediately.
The organization warned that this policy severely undermines the objectives of state reform, particularly efforts to strengthen the Anti-Corruption Commission.
TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman stated that the continuation of this opportunity shows the government’s disregard for fundamental reforms.
“No matter how it is explained, this decision clearly ignores the core intent of anti-corruption initiatives. It is a surrender to the influence of the real estate lobby and violates Article 20(2) of the Constitution, which asserts that unearned income should be deemed illegal,” he said.
