All educational programs in Rohingya camps suspended

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and international NGO, Save the Children, have announced all educational programs in the Rohingya camps of Ukhia and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar for the indefinite period.

The two organizations made the announcement in a joint letter sent to the UNHCR on Tuesday (June 3) afternoon.

The letter was signed by Angela Carney, Head of UNICEF Cox’s Bazar Field Office, and Mohammad Golam Mostafa, representative of Save the Children.

The letter stated, “Due to the ongoing unstable situation in Ukhiya, camp-based education activities have been temporarily suspended.”

Earlier, in a news briefing on June 2, UNICEF said that 230,000 children in Rohingya camps are at risk of education due to funding shortages. Due to the financial crisis, they are being forced to gradually lay off local teachers and volunteers.
