News on Mujibnagar govt`s FF status is `false and misleading`

The press wing of the chief adviser has said that the news published in some media outlets about the cancellation of the freedom fighter recognition of top leaders of the Mujibnagar government, including President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Acting President Syed Nazrul Islam, and Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, is 'completely baseless, false and misleading'.

Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam on Wednesday (June 4) said those who were in the Mujibnagar government were also freedom fighters. Those who fought liberation war with the armed, those who led it, were all freedom fighters.

He said that according to the National Freedom Fighters Council ordinance, diplomats working abroad, including employees of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, are also recognized as 'cooperative freedom fighters'.

Freedom fighters and associate freedom fighters will have equal status, respect, and privileges, he said.

The decision has currently been implemented according to the definition of freedom fighter in 1972. Later, in 2018 and 2022, some changes were made to this definition, which were made within the legal framework.
