The rawhides of sacrificial animals collected by the traditional Taqwa Mosque in the capital’s Dhanmondi have been sold at a record price in a local tender.
Cow rawhides were sold for Tk 1,372 each. Some 853 rawhides were sold in this tender organized by the Taqwa Mosque Society. The money will be deposited in the mosque’s zakat fund, which will be spent for orphans and destitute people.
On Wednesday (June 11) evening, five local leather buying firms participated in the tender at the Taqwa Mosque premises. Imex Leather Limited bought the leather at Tk 1,372, which is higher than the price set by the government.
This year, the government set the price of each rawhide in Dhaka at Tk 1,350. The price obtained by selling it in the tender is Tk 22 higher than the price set by the government.
Hasan Shahid Siddiqui, assistant manager of Taqwa Mosque Society, said, “The increase in the price of rawhide is a blessing for us. This money will be used to develop the infrastructure of the mosque. If the income of the mosque increases, it will be possible to invest more in religious and social activities.”
