The World Bank (WB) has approved $250 million in financing to strengthen public sector performance in Bangladesh by promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency across key government agencies.
A notification from the World Bank’s Dhaka office confirmed the matter on Saturday (June 14).
The loan was approved by the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors at its headquarters in Washington, DC.
The project will enhance governance structures and capacities in five major agencies: Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, National Board of Revenue, Planning Division, Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority, and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General.
"The investment will leverage digitisation of business processes to help improve transparency and reduce corruption, by supporting Bangladesh in modernising public institutions capable of serving an emerging economy," said Gayle Martin, World Bank Interim Country Director for Bangladesh.
