Dhaka is closely monitoring the situation in Tehran amid the ongoing instability between Iran and Israel. However, no initiative has been taken so far to repatriate Bangladeshis stranded there.
Foreign ministry officials revealed the information on Sunday (June 15).
Wishing anonymity, an official said that we are in touch with our relevant officials in Iran. We are also in touch with the Bangladeshis trapped in the country. However, no plan has been made yet to rescue them.
There are not many Bangladeshi expatriates in Iran, but some students live in the country. International air traffic with the country is currently closed, so it is not possible to bring them back right now. he added.
Oalid Islam, consul at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran, said there are about 66 Bangladeshi students in Iran. They are in safe.
Earlier, Israel attacked various sites in Iran, including nuclear facilities on Friday morning. International media reported that around 78 people, including six Iranian scientists, were killed in the Israeli airstrike.
