5 Islamic banks to be merged soon: Governor

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Ahsan H Mansur said that five Islamic banks of private sector will be merged soon. However, employees of these banks will not lose their job.

He said this in a press conference at the central bank in Dhaka on Sunday (June 15).

The move, however, has no connection with the upcoming elections. This is part of an ongoing process. We hope the next government will carry it forward. However, instead of waiting for the election, the merger of the five Islamic banks will take place within the next few months," he said.

In reply to a question, he also said the process of recovering smuggled assets must proceed step by step. No asset can be recovered without a final court ruling.
