Government holiday on August 5: Farooki

The government has decided to declare August 5 as a public holiday to mark the Student-People Uprising Day.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki disclosed this at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Thursday.

“The programmes following the July mass uprising will begin on July 1 and will continue until August 5. Details will be announced next Monday. The main event will begin on July 14”, he said. 

The day will be officially celebrated every year. He said it will be passed in the cabinet meeting on next Sunday and a gazette notification will be issued on Monday to this end.

Earlier, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Advisers at the State Guest House Jamuna.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was present at the press briefing.
