Dhaka Medical College (DMC) authorities have announced the indefinite suspension of all academic activities.
All students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 12:00 PM on Sunday.
However, students participating in professional and MBBS examinations and foreign students will be out of purview of the directive.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the college's Academic Council held on Saturday (21 June).
The decision, confirmed by DMC Principal Professor Dr. Md. Kamrul Alam, follows growing tensions on campus over poor infrastructure in both academic buildings and student halls.
According to an official notice signed by Dr. Alam, students have been demanding urgent renovations and safety measures. The council expressed agreement with their concerns and said it has been actively coordinating with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Directorate General of Health Education.
Despite repeated notices and offers of alternative housing, students from various batches have refused to vacate the condemned fourth floor of Dr. Fazle Rabbi Hall—posing a serious risk to their safety. The situation escalated further when the newly- admitted Batch-82 students boycotted their orientation program.
Students demonstrated over five demands in front of the institution's main gate on Saturday.
