The BNP has conditionally agreed on a constitutional provision limiting any individual as Prime Minister for 10 years.
BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said this at a press briefing after a meeting with Consensus Commission’s Vice Chairman Ali Riaz on Wednesday.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “We agree that the term of the Prime Minister will not exceed 10 years in lifetime. However, if the executive branch is completely controlled through the Constitutional Appointments Committee, we will not support that.”
The National Consensus Commission on Wednesday presented a revised proposal regarding the formation of an authority to oversee recruitment for certain key positions in constitutional and statutory bodies.
