Govt reverses course on marking Aug 8 as ‘New Bangladesh Day’

The interim government has reversed its decision on the Aug 8 as ‘New Bangladesh Day’. It was also decided to observe July Martyrs Day on July 16 and Gono-ovvutthan Dibosh on August 5.

Chief Adviser’s press secretary Md. Shafiqul Alam made a Facebook post in this regard on Sunday (June 29).

He wrote, “The Council of Advisers on Sunday decided to celebrate July Shaheed Dibosh on July 16 and July Gono-ovvutthan Dibosh on August 5. There will be no special celebration for August 8. There will be no Notun Bangladesh Dibosh on August 8.”

Earlier on June 25, the government declared August 5 July Uprising Day and August 8 New Bangladesh Day to commemorate key events in the country's recent history.
