Govt announces 5 August public holiday

The government has declared August 5 as a public holiday to honour Student-People’s Uprising Day and July 16 as July Martyred Day.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday (July 2).

According to the Cabinet Division, the day is now included in the Category-A list of national and international observances under the directive from October 21, 2024.

In a separate announcement, the government has canceled 'New Bangladesh Day' on August 8. This day was previously introduced by the interim government's Advisory Council.
