$2.82b remittance comes in June

Expatriates sent US$2.82 billion in remittances during the first 29 days of June, pushing Bangladesh’s total remittance earnings to $30.21 billion so far this fiscal year.

In local currency (123 taka per dollar), the amount is Tk34,698 crore.

The updated data from Bangladesh Bank (BB) confirmed the matter on Wednesday (July 2).

The country received $30.32 billion in remittance in the just-passed fiscal year. The receipt is $5.54 billion higher than the previous highest record of $24.77 billion registered in FY21.

Central bank officials said that the current government has taken a strict stance to prevent money laundering. As a result, sending money through various illegal channels, including hundi, has decreased. So, the collection of remittances through legal channels has increased.
