‘Decisions must be reached quickly despite differences of opinion’

Prof Ali Riaz, vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission, said, “Political parties must reach decisions quickly on the issues where they still have differences of opinion.”

Ali Riaz made the comment while addressing journalists on Tuesday (July 15) after the 14th day of the second phase of talks between the commission and political parties, held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

Ali Riaz said, “The success of the goals we are pursuing depends on the extent of consensus built around structural reforms. Political parties should feel their responsibility and make decisions quickly.”

He further said, “The commission is not a separate entity; it’s a collective effort of the political parties. If we fail, the responsibility doesn’t lie with only the commission, but with everyone. Therefore, we must emerge successful with everyone’s cooperation.”
