Errors in applications of 144 parties including NCP

All the 144 new political parties seeking registration with the Election Commission (EC) have failed to go past the first selection process.

On Tuesday, EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz said some errors were found in the applications of 144 new parties.

The commission will write to the parties asking for necessary information and data to correct the errors, he said.

He also said, “In the first phase, letters will be sent to 62 parties. In the next phase, letters will be sent to other parties as well. The errors must be corrected within 15 days.”

In the initial review stage, the EC reviews application documents of an aspirant party to verify if it complies with the required regulations.

In the second stage, the EC conducts field visits. In the third and final stage, the EC asks for any complaints and grievances, holds hearings on the potential grievances, and, finally, gives the final certification upon settlement of all issues.
