Jamaat Ameer falls sick on stage, completes speech sitting down

While delivering a speech at the national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman fell ill on stage.
He fell sick while delivering his speech at 5:26 pm on Saturday (July 19). Later, when leaders and activists quickly helped him up, he got up again and continued his speech. However, the Jamaat Ameer fell for the second time.
Later, he delivered his speech while sitting down on the stage.
In this regard, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb Ameer former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher said, “He (Jamaat Ameer) fell a little sick due to the heat. He delivered his speech sitting down a little later”.
The national rally of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami officially commenced at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan to press home the party’s seven-point demand including adopting a proportional representation (PR) system for national elections.
The programme officially commenced at 2:00pm, with recitation from the Holy Quran, at Suhrawardy Udyan where thousands of party activists from various parts of the country gathered.
Supporters continued to arrive at the venue in processions, chanting slogans and carrying banners in support of the demands.
The venue was fully packed with party supporters crowding nearby roads, as well as the Ramna Park.
Jamaat’s key demands at the rally include ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections with a level playing field, initiating fundamental political reforms, introducing the July charter and adopting a proportional representation (PR) system for national elections.
