‘25 out of 27 killed in Uttara plane crash are children’

27 people have died so far in the Air Force training plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara. Of them, 25 are children.

Over 170 others were injured in this connection, many with critical burns.

Professor Md Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, disclosed the information while briefing at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) around 8:15 am on Tuesday (July 22).

“Death toll in the plane crash climbed to 27 out of them, 25 are children. Of the remaining two, one is pilot and another is teacher. So far, the bodies of 20 victims have been handed over to families. The remains of six victims have not yet been identified, and only body parts were recovered in those cases,” Sayedur said.

Currently, 78 people are admitted to and being treated in four hospitals across the city. Among them, five patients are in the ICU at NIBPS, including three who are on ventilators, he said.

The body of the pilot is currently at the morgue, he added.

Yesterday (July 21), a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) F-7 BGI training jet crashed into the Diabari campus of Milestone College in the capital’s Uttara shortly after takeoff, sparking a massive fire.

The plane had taken off from BAF Base Bir Uttom AK Khandker at 1:06pm and crashed due to a technical failure, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
