Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, Apr 9: Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged Bangladesh attempt of singing the National Anthem by most people simultaneously as a world record.
“The most people singing a national anthem simultaneously is 254,537 and was achieved by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of the Peoples` Republic of Bangladesh (Bangladesh) at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 26 March 2014,” the Guinness Book authorities on Wednesday wrote in its official page.
The previous record for this category was set in Lucknow, India, on 6 May 2013 where 121,653 people sang the Indian national anthem.
In a bid to set a new world record breaking the previous one, over 2.5 lakh people from all walks of life, mostly in red and green, on 26 March gathered at National Parade Ground to be a part of the event `Lakho Konthe Sonar Bangla`.
They sang the national anthem `Amar Shonar Bangla, Ami Tomay Bhalobashi` together at 11:20am.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accompanied by a large number of her cabinet colleagues, also sang in unison the national anthem.
Millions of Bangladeshi nationals from all over the world joined the chorus.
