Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, May 3: Law enforcing agencies have netted at least twelve persons in connection with the brutal murder of seven people including Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam.


In a joint raid of RAB and Police at the house of Awami League leader Nur Hossain, the main accused in the abduction and killing of Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others, the law enforcers also sized a microbus.


However, Hossain, councillor of ward-4 and also vice-president of Siddhirganj thana AL unit, could not be arrested till filing of this report at 4:00pm.

Police did not mention names and identities of the detainees. The law enforcers said they had continued their all-out efforts to arrest the main accused.

After the abduction, Nazrul Islam’s wife Selina Islam on Monday filed an abduction case against 12 persons including Nur Hossain, councilor of ward-4 and also vice-president of Siddhirganj Thana Awami League unit.

Other accused are Siddhirganj Thana Awami League General Secretary Hazi Yasin Yasin, Hasmat Ali Hasu, close associate of  Nur Hossain, Swechchhasebok League General Secretary Amirul Islam Raju, Thana Sramik Dal General Secretary Anwar Hossain Ashik and Iqbal Hossain, close associate of Nur Hossain.

After three days of abduction, the bodies of Narayanaganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, Advocate Chandan Sarker and five others were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river.

The seven were kidnapped in broad daylight in Narayanganj last  Sunday.

Nazrul and his four associates and Chandan and his driver were kidnapped separately along with their cars, but around the same time soon after they came out of the court area.
