Staff Correspondent: A murder case was filed against ten people including Mirpur Police Station officer-in-charge Salahuddin Khan and sub-inspector Jahidur Rahman Khan over the death of garment-waste trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan in police custody.
Sujan`s widow Momtaz Sultana Lucy filed the case with the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judges in Dhaka on Sunday morning.
After hearing the complaints, Judge Md Zahirul Haque ordered a judicial enquiry into the custodial death of Mahbubur Rahman Sujan asking the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka to take initiatives for judicial investigation into the case.
Sujan, a garment waste trader in Mirpur, was picked up from his Shankar residence in the wee hours of last Sunday by a team of Mirpur police led by SI Jahidur.
He was allegedly beaten up at his house, inside the police van and at the police station overnight and subsequently died in police custody in the morning.
SI Jahidur was “closed” on late Sunday. A closure of a police official means he or she had been temporarily withdrawn from the police station concerned.
Later on Wednesday, Jahidur he was detained at Rupnagar of Mirpur in the capital.
Sujan’s autopsy report mentioned that he had been subjected to severe torture that led to his death.
