Biman DGM among 5 held for gold smuggling

Staff Correspondent:  At least five people including national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Deputy General Manager (DGM) Emdad Hossain for their involvement in gold smuggling.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested them on Wednesday morning.

The arrestees are Emdad Hossain, DGM of flight service division, Captain Abu Md. Aslam Shahid of planning and schedule department, Mahmudul Haque Palash, a contractor, Tofazzal Hossain, schedule manager, and Harunur Rashid, owner of Farhan Merchant.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held a press conference at its media cell in this regard on Wednesday noon.

At the press conference, DMP Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said they were directly and indirectly were involved in the gold smuggling.

On November 12, about 2.6kg gold was recovered from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and an investigation has found that they were involved in the gold smuggling incident, Monirul Islam said.
