`Manna is being tortured mentally`

Staff Correspondent: Meher Nigar, Wife of Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, has claimed that her husband is being tortured in police remand.

 
Manna`s wife came up with the allegation at a press conference in the city around 11:00am on Thursday.

Calming Manna as innocent person, Meher Nigar demanded her husband`s unconditional release and also wanted well treatment for him.

Neloy Manna, the daughter of the Nagorik Oikya convener was also present at the press conference.

Earlier on March 11, Manna was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as he felt pain in his chest and was admitted there after medical tests.

On expiry of the 10-day remand, Manna has been placed on a fresh 10-day police remand on March 7 in a sedition case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

An audio tape of a long telephone conversation purportedly between BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Manna were leaked on February 22.

In the audio tape, Manna briefs Khoka, now living in the US for eight months, about his plans to take out a march from National Press Club on Feb 23.

Manna advises Khoka to `tell your people` to go in for a massive showdown and unleash a bloody clash at the Dhaka University (DU).
