Staff Correspondent: Death-row war crimes convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman will take a decision on seeking presidential clemency after the settlement of his review petition.
Shishir Munir, a lawyer of Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, told this to journalists after meeting him at the Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday.
A five-member team of defence lawyers led by Shishir Munir entered the jail around 11.05am and came out at 11.55 am.
Shishir Munir said, "The hearing on the review petition filed challenging the death penalty will be held tomorrow (Sunday). After the settlement of review petition, we will take a decision on the presidential clemency ".
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Kamaruzzaman to death on May 9, 2013, for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. Five out of seven charges were proved by the prosecution in the case.
The Appellate Division upheld the verdict last year for the Jamaat leader’s crimes.
The war crimes tribunal issued a death warrant for Kamaruzzaman after the apex court released full text of the verdict this year.
He has sought a review of the final verdict, which is likely to be heard Sunday by the chief justice-led bench.
