Imported stones for Padma Bridge stuck in Faridpur

The stones will be taken to the Padma Bridge construction site by trucks after unloading them from the station

Faridpur Correspondent: Nearly 5,000 tonnes of stones imported from India for the piling of Padma Bridge are stuck at Faridpur Rail Station, as the loading bay is occupied illegally.

The unloading of the stone-laden compartments of the train which arrived at the station seven to eight days ago has been started on Saturday by clearing a part of the dock. However, full operation of unloading the stones was uncertain for lack of space created by illegal occupation of the loading bay.

The stones will be taken to the Padma Bridge construction site by trucks after unloading them from the station.

Supplier Overseas Commerce’s local representative Aktar Hossain Kamal said the construction works of Padma Bridge might be hampered if steps are not taken for unloading the stones.

He said they could not take any step, as the loading bay grabbers were influential people.

Meanwhile, Faridpur Station Master Motabbar Ali said that the higher authorities were informed about the illegal occupation of the loading bay.
