All citizens to get NID: EC

Staff Correspondent: Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General (retd) M Jabed Ali said that country’s all citizens above 18 years of age will get national identity (NID) cards.

The EC made the assertion while addressing a view exchange meeting at the administration office of Narayanganj district on Saturday noon.

He said that server stations (service centers) have been set up in 514 Thanas and Upazilas to ensure better service.

The election office will remain 24 hours open till next declaration, he added.

Jabed Ali also said that Bangladesh have signed a deal with World Bank for smart cards. About Tk.80 will require to make a single smart card but the citizens will get the cards at free of coast.

Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia presided over the meeting where police super Dr Khandakar Mahid Uddin, Election Commission office staff Mihir Sarwar and others attended.
