Staff Correspondent: The cyclonic storm, `Roanu`, is moving in East-northeasterly direction further and now crossing the Barisal-Chittagong coast.
The influence of the cyclonic storm may cause a storm surge of 4-5 feet height above normal tide.
Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, gusty or squally wind has been continuing over the coastal areas of Bangladesh since early this morning.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone center.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Mongla and Paira have been advised to keep hoisted danger signal number seven (r) seven.
At 6:00 am on Saturday, the cyclonic storm was centred about 255 kms west-southwest off Chittagong port, 230 kms west-southwest off Cox`s Bazar port, 190 kms South off Mongla port and 135 kms South off Paira port, said a Met Office special bulleting.
Authorities in Bangladesh however, unwilling to take chances, have already shifted about 2.5 million people to safer shelters while disaster management teams are on the standby to deal with any adverse situation.
The bulletin like previous ones, continued to advise fishermen not to venture deep into sea until further notice.
