Kamal elected Barisal Mayor

BARISAL, June 16: BNP-backed candidate Ahsan Habib Kamal has been unofficially elected Mayor in Barisal City Corporation elections election.
He has polled 84,751 votes while his closest contender Shawkat Hossain Hiron of the ruling Awami League-led Grand Alliance polled 66,741votes from all the 100 centres.
2,11,257 voters were in Barisal City Corporation. Voting in the city corporation ended almost peacefully at 4 pm Saturday.
The presence of voters in the polling centres of Barisal City Corporation was high despite rain in the morning.
Meanwhile, voting at Rupatali Government Primary School remained suspended from 1:40 pm to 3 pm after a clash between the supporters of Awami League-supported hopeful Shawkat Hossain Hiron and BNP-backed runner Ahsan Habib Kamal.
