HC upholds death for 6 Ahsanullah Master killers

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has upheld death penalty for 6 people in the Awami League leader Ahsanullah Master killing case.

A bench headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Wednesday noon.

Earlier on June 8, a bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath fixed the date on completion of hearing on the appeals and death reference.

Master, a popular politician of Tongi and AL MP from Gazipur, was gunned down on May 7, 2004, during his address to a local conference at the Noagaon MA Majid Mia High School ground, near his home.

A schoolboy was also killed in the gun attack.

A Speedy Trial Tribunal on April 16, 2005 sentenced 22 people, including BNP leader Nurul Islam Sarkar, to death and six others to life imprisonment in the murder case.

Of them, 17 are currently behind the bars while two others have already died and the rest nine are on the run.

The convicts later appealed against the sentences. The hearing started on January 21 this year.
