Phone Spoofing: RAB detains 9 fraudsters

Staff Correspondent: Rapid Action Battalion personnel (RAB) detained nine alleged fraudsters in Uttara of Dhaka on Thursday.

The detainees are Ashraful Islam alias Apel, Mahmudul Hasan alias Hridoy Chowdhury, Rafiqul Islam, Mahidul Islam alias Milon, Abu Kawsar alias Sabu, Nazmul Hasan, Amanullah Aman, Sagar Hossain alias Sagar and Billal Hossain.

In a press conference at RAB media center in capital's BSEC Bhaban, RAB said the arrestees, suspected to be the members of a fraudulent gang, amassed huge money by spoofing (cloning) the mobile phone numbers of government officials.

Confirming the matter, RAB-4 commanding officer Additional DIG Lutfar Kabir said that the elite force members seized apps, 22 mobile phone sets, 53 SIM cards, laptop, two laptops, four computer monitors, modem and Tk 17,000 cash from their possession.
