Nurul Huda new Chief Election Commissioner

Staff Correspondent: President Abdul Hamid on Monday appointed former secretary KM Nurul Huda as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

From the proposed names of Search Committee, Mahbub Talukder, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Begum Kabita Khanam, and Brigadier General (retd.) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury are selected as election commissioners.

In a press conference, Cabinet secretary Md Shafiul Alam announced the appointment by the president during a briefing around 9:30pm.

A gazette notification will be issued soon in this regard, he added.

Earlier, on January 25, President Abdul Hamid formed the six-member search committee asking it to recommend two names against each position in the commission.
