'Initiative underway to get GSP Plus facility'

Economic Correspondent: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that initiative is underway to get the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus facility in EU markets.

The Minister made the disclosure while addressing an inaugural ceremony at Le Méridien Dhaka organized by European Commission in the city on Tuesday.

Expressing gratitude to the European Union, he said Bangladesh earned 28 billion dollar in last fiscal year. From them 18 billion dollar came from European Union. The amount will be increased in the current fiscal year.

GSP facility is playing an important role behind the export earning, he added.

The Minister also said, "Bangladesh is going to fulfill Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target by 2030. The country will get GSP Plus facility then. Aiming the issue, the government is working".
