People expect new EC to be fearless, honest

Staff Correspondent: The eminent persons of the country expect that the newly constituted Election Commission will show honesty and fearless to restore public faith in the poll process.
Sharp analysis has started following the newly formed Election Commission when the President Hamid picked former secretary KM Nurul Huda and others on Monday.
The test of its effectiveness lies in getting all parties to contest the upcoming National election due in January 2019.
Former caretaker government adviser and Sujan president M Hafiz Uddin Khan told risingbd.com, "Hope the new Election Commission will work with competence removing failure of the previous EC."
Professor Syed Anwar Husain, Chairman of History Department at Dhaka University said, "We welcome the new Election Commissioners. According to the constitution, they are enough strong. We will appreciate them watching their tasks."
Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) said, "We expect the newly formed EC will do their duty with honesty keeping moral strength. They have to keep it mind that people expect much from them."
Earlier, President Abdul Hamid appointed Huda as new CEC last night in line with a constitutional provision, according to a gazette notification issued on Monday.
The president also appointed four election commissioners who include a woman. They are Mahbub Talukder, former additional secretary; Md Rafiqul Islam, ex-secretary; Begum Kabita Khanam, former district and sessions judge; and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.
