Parliament Correspondent: The Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday passed ‘The Jute Bill, 2017’.
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam moved the bill in the House for its passage.
Later, the House adopted the bill unanimously by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
While moving the bill, Azam said the Jute Ordinance, 1962 was promulgated to provide licences to jute traders and raw and refined jute press owners, procuring statistics of jute trading and jute industries, authorizing trading of jute and jute goods in the domestic
and international trade.
The state minister said the concerned ordinance was amended in 1963, 1974 and 1983.
On February 14, 2013 the cabinet decided framing a jute law in Bangla language.
