RU students carry on protest against BCS quota

RAJSHAHI, July 14: Students of Rajshahi University (RU) are continuing agitation for the third consecutive day demanding cancellation of quota provision in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations, the gateway of having public service.
They blocked Dhaka-Rajshahi highway on Sunday for around 45 minutes.
The agitators, who have been demonstrating under the banner of “general students”, left the highway around 11:45am.
Later, they returned to campus and started fresh demonstration boycotting classes.
As part of the protest, they will again block the highway and boycott the classes on Monday.
The PSC published the 34th BCS preliminary test results based on quota systems on July 8 prompting thousands of students to hit the streets demanding review of the results and opposing the quota system.
The BCS Preliminary test was held on May 24 last.
A total of 12,033 examinees passed the test. For the first time, quota system was introduced in the BCS preliminary test.
As a result, many meritorious students were deprived of passing the test. In the reaction to the test results, movement spread throughout the country. At one stage, the PSC decided to review the test results on July 10.
