Govt takes elaborate programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh

Staff Correspondent: The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla Calendar Year 1424, on April 14.

President Andul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will give separate messages on the occasion.

Marking the day, special supplements will be published in different dailies highlighting the significance of the day.

The local administrations will arrange cultural functions, village fairs and discussions at the divisional, district and upazilla levels.

In observance of the day, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will undertake a three-day programme.

Improved diets of Banglee food will be distributed among the inmates of jails, hospitals and orphanages in the country.

Cultural functions will be held at jails and orphanages. Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Folk and Craft Arts Foundation, and archaeological sites under Department of Archaeology will remain open and children, students and persons with disabilities would be allowed to visit free of cost.

All educational institutions of the country will celebrate the day separately with enthusiasm.

The law enforcement agencies will take necessary security measures across the country to make the programme a success, it said.
