Khaleda's self-defence statements May 18

Staff Correspondent: The court will hear on May 18 BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's self-defence statements in connection with the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadar of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-3 fixed the date on Thursday after Khaleda Zia's lawyer Sanaullah Mia had sought time.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia appeared before two courts in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage graft cases.

Of the cases, the procedures of Zia Orphanage graft case are under trial at Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah's Court in at the capital's Bakshibazar while Zia Charitable Trust graft case is running at  Dhaka's Special Judge Court-3 Abu Ahmed Jomadar's court.On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.

The Zia Orphanage graft case was filed by the ACC on July 3, 2008, with Ramna Police Station for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that was received as grants for orphans via a foreign bank.
