Paddy at TK24 per kg, rice at TK34

Secretariat Correspondent: Food Minister Qamrul Islam said that the government will purchase 8 lakh metric tonnes of paddy and 7 lakh metric tonnes of rice from farmers directly in Boro season this year.

This time the prices for paddy and rice have been fixed at TK 24 per kilogram and TK 34 respectively.

The minister made the disclosure while talking to reporters after a meeting at his secretariat office on Sunday afternoon.

Qamrul said, "This time we will provide farmers with account paycheck so that the farmers can get money directly from the sales of their crops. As a result, no one can come to interfere during the sales of the crops."

Alongside, the government will purchase wheat at Tk 28 a kg from April 18 to June 30, the minister said.

Qamrul said the production cost of a kg of rice and paddy was Tk 31 and TK 22 this year while it was Tk 29 and TK 20.70 in the last year.
