Staff Correspondent: Chairman of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Md Moshiar Rahman said that the route permits of buses will be scrapped if any transport owner stops operating his buses during drives in the capital.
The BRTA chairman came up with the warning while talking to reporters during a drive in the capital’s Ramna area on Monday noon.
Moshiar said, “Drives are underway. Action will be taken against those who will not run their buses. The route permits of buses will be scrapped if any transport owner stops operating his buses fearing fine or willingly during drives in the capital. We are making a list of buses which are not being operated in the capital.”
BRTA has been conducting drives against unfit vehicles and illegal drivers for few days.
Dhaka Road Transport Owners' Association Secretary General Khandaker Enayetullah announced that no public transport will operate in Dhaka city in the name of sitting service, gate-lock or special service from April 15 at a press briefing held at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital on April 4.
The decision was enforced from yesterday (Sunday).
