‘Bangladesh to overtake India achieving economic growth’

KMA Hasnath, from Yokohama, Japan: Asian Asian Development Bank (ADB) president Takehiko Nakao expressed hope that Bangladesh will overtake India by achieving economic growth.
The ADB president came up with the opinion while addressing an inaugural ceremony of the international bank’s annual meeting, which kicked off Thursday at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center at Yokohama in Japan.
A 14-member Bangladeshi delegation led by Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith joined the programeme on Thursday.
The ADB has seen the region weather several crises and has worked alongside countries — from China to India — as they have made a variety of reforms.
“Each time, we in a sense invented new ideas of supporting countries based on good policies but to make a quick reaction we produced new ideas of doing things,” Nakao told media.
ADB President also said that India is called South Asian Growth Champion and the title will go to Bangladesh.
Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith said that Bangladesh has reached at a strong position in economy. Bangladesh is working with the globe to eliminate poverty by 2030.
More than 3,000 people, including key officials of governments, central banks, other financial institutions and NGOs, the meeting, which also marked the 50th anniversary of the ADB’s establishment, is scheduled to run through Sunday.
The officials will discuss issues in the Asia and Pacific regions, including poverty, women’s empowerment, sustainable societies, infrastructure development and health care.
