Twin rape in Banani: NHRC forms probe body

Staff Correspondent: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday formed a five-member probe committee over the sensational incident of raping two girls at a hotel in the capital's Banani.
The committee has been asked to report by 15 days after the collection of necessary information on the incident.
Nazrul Islam has been made the convener of the committee. Other members of the committee are Nurun Nahar Osmani, Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Sharif Uddin and M Rabiul Islam.
Kazi Riazul Haque, chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, said the commission itself took the initiative to carry out an investigation over the incident considering its importance. The Banani incident is a violation of human rights, he said.
Two young men allegedly raped the girls more than a month ago in a hotel while three others assisted them. One of the victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on Saturday night.
Two young men -- Ahmed Shafat and Nayem Ashraf -- were accused of raping while Shafat's driver Billal, an unnamed bodyguard, and another young man Sadman Shafiq were accused of assisting Shafat and Nayem.
