Man held over killing pregnant wife

Staff Correspondent: Police held a man named Saiful Al-Mamun, 35, for allegedly killing his pregnant wife in the capital's Khilgaon area on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mahmuda Akter Munni, 22, who died at Square Hospital around 11:15am on Friday.

The body was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

Munni, daughter of Laxmipur Awami League General Secretary Monirul Karim, used to live with his husband Mamun at the house no. 347 of Goran in Khilgaon.

Khilgaon police sources said Mamun returned home drunk on Thursday midnight. Then he beat her several times as she delayed to open the door, leaving her injured.

She was rushed to Square Hospital in the night where she succumbed, the sources said.

Fazlul Karim, uncle of Munni, said Mamun got married with a hindu girl several days ago that caused to be locked between them for a few days.

Kazi Mainul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khilgaon police station, confirmed the news.
