Launch capsize in 2003: HC upholds Tk17cr compensation

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has upheld a verdict, which had ordered Tk17crore in compensation for the victims of a 2003 launch capsize on the Meghna River.
An HC bench comprising of Justice Syed Mohammad Ziaul Karim and Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain passed the order on Monday.
Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder, Advocate Rafsan Alvi and Ishrat Hasan stood for the state while Dr Kamal Hossain, Kamrul Haque Siddique and Subrata Chowdhury moved for Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST).
On Jul 8, 2003, passenger vessel MV Nasrin-1 sank on the river in Chandpur killing 110 people, including the owner. As many as 119 passengers went missing.
