Verdict is historical, says Manzill Murshid

Staff Correspondent: Writ petitioner lawyer Manzill Murshid has termed the Supreme Court's verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment of the constitution as the historical one.

He said a new horizon has been unveiled for independence of the judicial department through this verdict.

He came up with the reaction to the newsmen after the judgment was announced on Monday.

Manzill Murshid said the Appellate Division has given a historical judgment on question of independence of the judiciary. Through the amendment, the parliament took up the power of removing SC judges for incapacity or misbehavior, but the judgment rejected it. From now, SC judges could be removed by taking steps through judicial council.
