HC grants anticipatory bail to 94 BNP men

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) granted anticipatory bail to 94 BNP leaders and activists including assistant secretary of BNP’s international affairs Nazrul Islam Azad and assistant secretary of mass education of the party Annisur Rahman Talukder Khokon in two violence cases filed in Narayanganj and Madaripur districts.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Amir Hossain granted them the six-week anticipatory bail on Tuesday after hearing two separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases.

Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon and Advocate Joinul Abedin stood for the accused during the hearing in the court.

Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon told risingbd.com that police filed a case with Araihazar Police Station of Narayanganj against 87 BNP leaders and activists including Nazrul Islam Azad on charge of clashing with police and preventing them from discharging their duties during  a programme organised on the occasion of BNP’s 39th founding anniversary.

Among the accused, 86 secured bail from the High Court, Leon said.

The other case was filed with Kalkini Police Station of Madaripur against 10 BNP leaders and activists including Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon on charge of beating local Awami League men.

Among the accused, eight have been granted bail by the High Court, said Leon.
