Bounty announced Avijit killer Sohel arrested

Staff Correspondent: Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police arrested a key suspect in the murder of writer and blogger Avijit Roy from the capital's Mohammadpur area on Sunday night.

The arrestee was known as Abu Sakib alias Sohel, member of banned militant outfit of intelligence wing of Ansar Al-Islam (former Ansarullah Bangla Team).

Law enforcement agencies announced a bounty on his head.

Monirul Islam, Chief of CTTC, also additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the news.

He said, "Sohel revealed during interrogation that he carried out the murder as per the direction of their senior leader Zia (Major Zia)."

Suspected militants hacked to death Avijit, founder of Mukto-Mona blog, at Dhaka University campus on February 26, 2015. His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya was also injured in the attack.

The Bangladesh-born US citizen had come home with his wife only a few days ago as his two books were published during the Ekushey Book Fair that year.
