Man attempts to burn wife at Kamrangirchar

Staff Correspondent: A man allegedly attempted to burn his wife, setting fire after pouring kerosene on her body, at Kamrangirchar in the capital in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The victim has been admitted to the Burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Police held her husband Jahangir. He is being interrogated over the incident, according Kamrangirchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Fakir.

He said, "The incident took place at a house of Alinagar, near the house of Islam Chairman, around 2:00am on Wednesday."

Sources said Jahangir, who trades of fruits at New Market area in the capital, is addicted to gambling. He frequently beats up his wife over the issue. On Tuesday night, he locked into quarrel with his wife as she talked with him over borrow money from her paternal aunt. At one stage, Jahangir set fire on Lipi's body.
