DNCC mayoral post declared vacant

Secretariat Correspondent:  The mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has been declared vacant following the death of DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq.

The Local Government Ministry issued a circular on Monday.

Deputy Secretary of the Local Government Ministry Md. Mahmudul Alam said the ministry is preparing to publish a gazette notification, and the Election Commission (EC) will start the election process soon after the gazette is published.

According to the Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009, the Election Commission has also a legal obligation to complete the by-election within 90 days.

Annisul Huq was elected the DNCC mayor contesting the DNCC election held on April 28, 2015 with Awami League ticket.
