Non-MPO teachers call off demo after PM's assurance

Staff Correspondent: The teachers of the non-MPO educational institutions have called off their fast-unto-death demonstration as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave assurance to meet their demands.

On Friday, the teachers started their hunger strike for the sixth consecutive, day demanding enlistment under the government's Monthly Payment Order (MPO) facility, in front of the National Press Club in the capital.

Earlier on Tuesday, Education Minister along with several officials of the ministry visited the agitated teachers and urged to stop the demonstration, pledging assurance to meet demands.

But teachers then rejected the minister's call and declared to continue the agitation until assurance from the premier.

It may be mentioned that Non-MPO teachers went on hunger strike till death on December 31, after they observed sit-in programme for five days at the place.
