Staff Correspondent: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque admitted his failure to root out militancy and drugs from the country although Bangladesh is considered as the role model in curbing militancy across the world.
The IGP made the comment while replying to a query of journalists at a press conference held at the police headquarters in the capital o Saturday.
‘We couldn’t dig out the root of militancy and drugs from the country as both are an addiction,” Shahidul said.
“There is a vast border area in Cox’s Bazar through which a large consignment of yaba pills are smuggled into the country from neighbouring country. We are gradually progressing in preventing the entry of yaba pills. Smugglers use different tactics to smuggle drugs which is difficult to stop. But we are trying our level best,” he added.
He said 2,87,254 cases have been filed and several thousands of smugglers arrested in this connection.
